Notice of Race

 

1          ORGANIZING AUTHORITY

The Organizing Authority (OA) is Indian River Yacht Club (www.iryc.org). 

 

2          VENUE

The venue will be Cocoa, Florida.  All sailing activity will be based at Lee Wenner Park, 300 Riveredge Dr, Cocoa, FL.   (This is a venue address only – NOT the contact address for event information)

 

Racing will be conducted on the waters adjacent to the venue.

 

3          EVENT GRADING

The event is an ISAF Grade 4 event.  This grading is subject to review by the ISAF Match Race Advisory Board.  The event may be re-graded or un-graded.

 

4          PROVISIONAL PROGRAM (subject to change)

(a)     Pre-Register through OA prior to November 6.

(b)     On Friday, November 6:  1-4pm  on the water training led by Bill Gladstone     

                   5-9pm in the classroom training led by Bill Gladstone

(c)     Practice Race – 09:00-11:00 hrs. Saturday, November 7.

(d)     Match Race Regatta – Skipper’s Meeting Saturday, November 7, 12:00 hrs.

(e)     Match Race Regatta – First Race Saturday, November 7, 13:00 hrs.

(f)       De-briefing Saturday, November 7 after racing.

(g)     Match Race Regatta – Skipper’s Meeting Sunday, November 8, 09:00 hrs.

(h)     Match Race Regatta – Racing resumes Sunday, November 8, 10:00 hrs.

(i)       Prize Giving – Sunday, November 8, 2009, as soon after the last race as is possible.

 

5          SKIPPERS ELIGIBILITY

(a)     Eight (8) skippers will compete.

(b)     The registered skipper shall helm the boat at all times while racing, except in an emergency.

(c)     All competitors shall obtain an ISAF Sailor ID by registering online at www.sailing.org/isafsailor.  Skippers shall inform the OA of their Sailor ID at registration.

 

6          ENTRIES

6.1   Registration:  The skipper shall be entered on completion of registration and the payment of the entry fee.

6.2   Entry Fee:  A non-refundable entry fee of $85.00 (US) per boat shall be paid at registration.

 

7          RULES

The event will be governed by the rules as defined in the 2009-2012 RRS & Appendix C.

 

8          BOATS AND SAILS

(a)     The event will be sailed in class legal Catalina 22 sailboats, as defined by C22 NSA, with the following amendments: main and jib only, no Genoa, spinnaker, whisker pole or jib outriggers.

(b)     Each skipper must bring or arrange for a boat.  Competitors without boats will be assigned a boat on which to race.

(c)     Boats will be hauled out after racing on Saturday and stored, mast up, on trailers.

 

9          CREW (INCLUDING SKIPPER)

(a)     The number of crew (including skipper) shall be three (3) or four (4).  All registered crew shall sail all races.  

(b)     When a registered skipper is unable to continue in the event the OA may authorize an original crew member to substitute.

(c)     When a registered crew member is unable to continue in the event the OA may authorize a substitute, a temporary substitute or other adjustment.

 

10        EVENT FORMAT

(a)     The event will consist of the following stages:

Stage 1: Single Round Robin.

Stage 2: Single Round Robin.

Stage 3: Semi-Final Round.

Stage 4: Final/Petit-Final Round.

(b)     The OA may change the format, terminate or eliminate any round, when conditions do not permit the completion of the intended format.

 

11        COURSE

(a)     The course will be windward/leeward/windward/leeward with starboard roundings, finishing downwind.  The course may be shortened to windward/leeward by signal from the RC prior to the warning signal for each race

(b)     The intended course area will be in the vicinity of the Channel Marker 77 on ICW.
